About Ed James Insurance Brokerage

My Journey to Ed James Insurance

I have been surrounded by the insurance business my whole life, and working in it since I was 16 years old when I first began to intern at Plymouth Rock. There, I learned plenty of different aspects about the business including marketing, communications, and most relevant of all how to quote and give advice on insurance at an extremely fast pace while maintaining quality. That kicked off my journey in the personal insurance industry, and after 7 years in a row of interning there I finally decided that insurance was going to be the full time career I pursued.

My journey led me to become a producer at a local captive personal insurance agency where I learned and mastered the art of advising and finding insurance for my clients, as well as getting life licensed. I was able to get a lot of face to face experience with my clients, hone my knowledge of the industry, and learned to place value first. While I loved the experience I had there, I eventually needed something more challenging with more product availability. I didn’t feel like I was truly an advisor to my clients and knew I could achieve so much more down another path, which I was able to find when I left the captive agency to go work for a large independent insurance agency to help pioneer their personal lines program.

The business model there was a completely different one than I had experienced prior, but I walked in with open arms looking for a better way to build up a business and help my clients. From day one I dove head first into learning every single thing I could possibly learn about all of the companies, their products, variations in the policy contracts, and developed relationships within the company and the carriers. I was never satisfied not knowing the answer to something even if it wasn’t a part of my job. Concurrently I learned that the key to my business success would be through developing referral partners and becoming deeply ingrained in my community. Over the last three and a half years I have built over 100 solid referral partners that allow me to provide resources for my clients and help me grow my business. This led me to become one of the top producers at my company with a focus on mostly middle market clientele. I was quickly promoted to team lead within 7 months, where I was responsible for training, carrier knowledge, systems development, center of influence development, running meetings, and much more. After two and a half years, I was promoted to Area Vice President and sales manager for the East Coast division where I was tasked to grow our operation and duplicate my results.

Becoming an independent agent has been one of the best things to happen to me in my life, and it has helped us to realize the business model that we want to follow as well as the types of clients we want to work with. We have a team of professionals and our experience will be a key factor in giving the highest level quality of service possible to my clients and partners and achieve the following goals.

1. We want to be able to give the same level of attentive service to all of my clients.

2. We always want to make sure we have enough support available to service our clients. We will be on top of all notifications for our clients policies and communicate in a timely fashion.

3. We strive to continuously improve our business by implementing technology and excellence of service, and make changes immediately when they can be helpful.
